Welcome

Hello Everyone! Welcome to the Hemmerlein Photography blog! I specialize in wedding and portrait photographer but do all types of photography. I have done commercial work, covered sporting events, an occassional done a few executive headshots. My work has a natural, relaxed style to sincerely capture amazing photos of how people really are.

This space will be used to showcase recent weddings and portrait sessions, and from time to time I will post some of my personal work. Everyone now and again I like to wonder around and photograph things for myself. I will have some personal ramblings on here as well. I am a huge Notre Dame and Cubs fan and will hopefully post more raves than rants, but there is no telling with those two teams. Hopefully from a few of my personal ramblings you will be able to tell if our personalities will mesh and I am the type of photographer you would like to work with.

Enjoy the posts and photos! Leave lots of comments.

In the office

Most people I work with know that I am a middle school teacher and coach on top of running my photography business. I do not run a studio as I prefer to do all location work, and I work out of my home office. Beginning this week I will not be in my office on Sunday - Tuesday until the wedding season starts for in late May. Why exactly am I telling you all this? Good question. I will not be holding consultations on these days, answering or returning phone messages, or responding to emails. If you have a shoot or wedding and you need to get in touch with me that week and it happens to be Monday please contact me. I will still take care of the current week’s shoots or wedding.

Evi

Evi was particularly active the morning we took her portraits which makes things a bit more diffictult. It is normally difficult to predict was a newborn is going to do, when they will look the camera’s way, or a number of other things. We were still able to capture some really cute portraits. The last one is my favorite and looked incredible when I saw the enlargement.

Megan and Thomas

We shot an awesome engagement session recently. Both Megan and Thomas were super easy subjects to shoot. Hopefully the photos turn out this great and the shoot goes just as well when I photograph their wedding next summer in Denver, Colorado.

Claire and Jarrett

Claire and Jarrett were both extremely great people to work with. This helped us capture some great photos.

Julia and Houston

Julia and Houston were two of the most laid back, natural people I have had the pleasure of working with. It also was the only reception I have covered in which the flowers caught on fire.

Miscellaneous Monday #2

The Cubs suck. I said it, I don’t like it, but I said it. They flat out choked. If you are paid that much money you should have to pay the team back if you play that bad. Inexcusable. Loveable needs to be taken out of the name “Loveable Losers”

On a more positive note the Irish are looking much, much better. I could dedicate a whole post of critiques on the season thus far but I will spare you my genius insights. Hopefully they can win 8 maybe 9 games and play in a second tier bowl get a win and head into next season ready to go. The polls love to make the Irish better than they are and blast them when they trip. This season can allow them to get their feet back under them, get the media off their back, and get the fans back into it. A 3-9 season kind of takes the excitement out of things.

I’m so excited it’s fall. I can’t think of anything I hate about the fall besides winter is only weeks away. As my wife and I were walking into the ND game on Saturday the thing I paid the most attention to was the smell of the leaves that had fallen. We only get a few quality weeks of fall before the temperature gets too cold to really enjoy. Unfortunately I have been busy the last two years to enjoy the season but hopefully I will be able to check out a few things.

Anybody get pumped for Halloween? Just remember handing out the black and orange peanut butter candies will probably get your house tp’ed by some disgruntled kids. Just to be on the safe side hand out mini candy bars of any kind. The trick or treaters may not like the particular kind you are handing out but at least you won’t get tp’ed for handing out the black and orange things.

In one month, 25 hours, and 8 minutes I will have been around for three decades. It seems time has flown by. High School seems like it was only a year or so ago, and college seems like it was yesterday. I was talking with a few of the other teachers in the hallway the other day and one of them asked what I was doing that weekend. I responded I was going to finish the shed we just built and do some long overdue yardwork. Their response was, “It sucks being a grown up.” I can’t say that’s true all the time but sleeping until noon and hanging out at the pub all evening sure was a good time.

April and Jeff

April and Jeff were married in the Oliver Gardens in South Bend. Very nice people. Very nice setting. Great Day!

Some recent portraits…if you consider July recent!

I shot two different sessions. The first was with two sisters that wanted to have a few portraits taken to put together an awesome collage frame for their dad on father’s day. The second session was with M. who’ve I shot on numerous occasions.

Out of the Office

Due to a death in the family I will be out of my office for the remainder of the week and probably will not return until next Monday. Thanks for the understanding and sorry for any inconvenience.

Email Troubles

If you have been sending me emails and not getting a response either be patient or leave a comment here and let me know. My email addresses have been being blocked from a couple ISP’s. AT&T, SBC, and AOL are the three that I am getting error messages from stating my email is blocked. I am attempting to get this cleared up so please let me know if you are having problems or you think I am ignoring you.
